March Must-dos on San Juan Island
March on San Juan Island is invigorating with the promise of every type of weather, an abundance of exciting things to do, and yet so much more affordable and less busy than traveling in the height of the summer (our busiest time on the island). It’s a great time for a family reunion, a friend getaway, your hot yoga group or just the two of you. Here are our favorite things to do in March on San Juan Island:
Spring Farm-to-Table Dinner
The adorable farm-to-table restaurant COHO, a few blocks from our Friday Harbor Hotel, delights us with their seasonal, local spring menu and house-made cocktails. Come for the First Seating between 5:00pm and 6:00pm and enjoy a set five-course meal for just $45 per person in March.

Saturday Farmers Market
Join the local farmers, makers, crafters and foodies every first and third Saturday for live music, chair massages, arts and crafts, freshly made cheeses and meats, baby plants and the first Spring veggies.

Pool & Spa Day
Treat yourself to a pool and spa day at our sister hotel, the Earthbox Inn & Spa, just two blocks away. Get a pool pass for the day (available for the day of your spa treatment) and soak in the oversized jacuzzi, swim in the heated pool and take a sauna before getting pampered at the day spa. Check out the Open Sky Signature Massage, a full-body Swedish massage with exclusive body oils, aroma therapy, back exfoliation, facial massage and incorporation of hot stones from our gorgeous island beaches.

Whale Watching at the Whale Watching Park
While the whale watching season starts in earnest in April, do not miss a visit to Lime Kiln State Park, one of the best places to see whales from land on earth! In March the Humpbacks and their calves are returning from Hawaii and Orca whales are starting to grace the deep waters around our shores.

Birding at Cattle Point Lighthouse
The historic Cattle Point Light House on the south end of the isle offers 180 degree views of the glistening Salish Sea, a sea lion colony, and over 70 species of seabirds, plus Bald Eagles, Hawks and Owls. Bring binoculars and take in the lively activity at sunset.

Wildflower Hike at English Camp
Explore English Camp National Historical Park, it’s barracks and formal English garden surrounded by 350-year-old Bigleaf maples, Garry Oak savannas and historic fruit orchards in bloom. Hike Young Hill towering over serene Garrison Bay, find the first wildflowers emerging and the most astonishing views of the island archipelago from the summit.

Gallery & Museum Day in Friday Harbor
Check out the fabulous Friday Harbor Whale Museum right across the street from our Bird Rock Hotel. Learn about our resident Orca whales, their challenges and find out where the latest whale sighting took place. Explore nine galleries, the art museum, the poetry gardens and the fun, outdoor Historical Museum, all within walking distance of our Friday Harbor hotel.
