5 Best Places to watch Summer Sunsets on San Juan Island
Nothing says Summer vacation like watching the sun set on the beach, surrounded by your favorite people after a day filled with joy and laughter. Let us share our favorite places on San Juan Island to bid the day farewell and bring on the night.
1. Lime Kiln State Park
This 42-acre gem, colloquially known as the “whale watch park”, is a beautiful place to be any time of the day. Explore the lighthouse, interpretive center and whale watching platforms. Hike along steep cliffs, have a picnic and watch for Orcas.
2. Guided Sunset Kayak Tour
Treat yourself to a sunset kayaking tour with our friends at San Juan Outfitters out of Roche Harbor. Silently glide through the glistening Salish Sea while watching Bald eagles, harbor seals and sea stars. The waters are quiet with fewer boats than during the day and the views are simply magnificent.
3. South Beach
San Juan Island's longest beach, nestled on the southern tip of the isle, is the perfect place for an evening bonfire after a long walk along the driftwood. Watch for otters and sea lions, eagles and foxes as the sun sets over the Olympic mountains.
4. Madrona Grill
End your day on the comfy wrap-around porch of the Madrona Grill, overlooking the Roche Harbor marina. Enjoy fresh, local fare and a sumptuous cocktail, while watching the boaters and kayakers come home.
5. San Juan County Park
Play lawn games or have a picnic on a spacious grassy bluff surrounded by charming pebbly beaches on either side while being grateful for another trip around the sun.
